REDCap is the secure web platform that universities, health systems and research organizations use to build surveys and research databases. It can do far more than most teams use. We set up, administer and improve REDCap projects for organizations that have the platform but not the time or the specialist.
What does Plotline Evaluation’s REDCap consulting cover?
User administration, front-end administration, survey design and advanced survey design, and longitudinal projects with events and arms: project setup, instruments, branching logic, calculated fields, survey queues, alerts, data access groups and user rights, data quality rules, reports and exports. Plotline Evaluation works inside your organization’s own REDCap instance and builds projects your team can run after we hand them over.
What we do in REDCap
- User administration: accounts, user rights, data access groups, project-level permissions, and the audit trail that goes with them.
- Front-end administration: project setup and settings, instruments and fields, the data dictionary, record status dashboards, reports and exports.
- Survey design: instruments people actually finish, on a phone or on paper, with the validation that keeps the data clean.
- Advanced survey design: branching logic, calculated fields, piping, survey queues, automated invitations, alerts and notifications, e-Consent.
- Event management: longitudinal projects with events and arms, scheduling, repeating instruments and forms, and the data model behind them.
- Data quality and protection: data quality rules, duplicate and bot screening for public surveys, a documented data dictionary, and exports that are ready for analysis.
- Training and handover: your team runs the project when we leave, with documentation written for them.
How it works
- A scope call, free of charge: what you have, what is not working, what you need by when.
- A written scope with deliverables, price and dates.
- The build or the fix, inside your instance, usually in a development copy first, tested with your team.
- Handover: documentation, a short training session, and a walkthrough of what to do next.

REDCap is developed at Vanderbilt University and made available to non-profit partner institutions of the REDCap Consortium. We are independent consultants, not affiliated with Vanderbilt or the Consortium.
You need your own REDCap instance, usually through your institution or a partner institution. We work inside it, under your institution’s policies, and your data stays where it is.

Do we need our own REDCap?
Yes. REDCap is licensed to partner institutions, usually universities, hospitals and research organizations. We build and administer projects inside your instance; we do not host REDCap for clients.
Can you fix a project that is already running?
Yes. Common requests: untangling branching logic, adding events or repeating instruments without losing data, tightening user rights and data access groups, or cleaning up the data dictionary before an export.
Do you design the survey content as well as the build?
Yes. Survey design is our work: question wording, response options, length, validation and the paper version, tested before launch.
How is REDCap consulting priced?
